General Motors Corp. is planning to manufacture Chevrolet cars in Malaysia and details are expected to be finalised in the next few months, the Star reported on Wednesday, citing a company official.
“Our intention is to add to General Motor’s Thailand story by extending our manufacturing presence to Malaysia,” the newspaper quoted Steve Carlisle, GM president for Southeast Asia, as saying.
GM currently manufactures models for the Chevrolet brand for the Southeast Asian market at its plant in Rayong, Thailand.
In Malaysia, the production of Chevrolet cars would be in partnership with DRB-HICOM Bhd., under Hicom-Chevrolet Sdn. Bhd., according to the report.
