Pagani Automobili S.p.A. is an Italian manufacturer who makes sports car and one which are of carbon fibre. Not that Pagani Automobili S.p.A is world renowned for this however the very fact that they sell about 20 cars in a year is quite commendable. This is considering the fact that all these cars are road legal super cars. Their only sole model is the Pagani Zonda R. However now, Pagani Automobili S.p.A want to increase their product line up and for this very reason, they are planning to introduce another sports car and one which would sit just below the flag ship Pagani Zonda R. It has been code-named C9.

The Pagani C9 would be an all new grounds up car with an estimated 3870 new parts been shoved in. Wide use of carbon fiber makes it a painstaking work for making this car. As of now, there are about 4-5 prototypes been tested in and around Italy and the de-restricted autobahn of Germany. Unfortunately one such prototype car was already crashed by one of the drivers as he lost control of the car while maneuvouring it at high speed. The main reason given was that the suspension and chassis aren’t sturdy enough to accommodate the power made from the AMG engine. Its another fact that the driver of the Pagani C9 escaped unscathed and he was doing approximately 125 miles per hour at the time of the crash. It is estimated that the Pagani C9 would be lighter than the Pagani Zonda R and also faster. The new Pagani C9 is expected to use the twin-turbo charged 6.0-liters V-12 engine from the Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black AMG Series. This would produce about 700 hp and about 743 pound feet of torque. There would also be unique to sports cars carbon-titanium chassis, as usual Bosch electronic nannies and also made for Pagani, Pirelli tyres.

The look of the car is similar to the Pagani Zonda R however the new model has first rate head lamps, smaller proportions and also a Mercedes SLS AMG inspired gull wing doors. Pagani founder Horacio Pagani said that this new model would be different in character than the Pagani Zonda R and would be more fun to drive than the latter. It is a well known fact that Mercedes AMG and Pagani Automobili S.p.A share a great bond from the time the latter was formed. The current engine running in the Pagani Zonda R has been derived from AMG. Pagani Automobili S.p.A was actively involved in the development of the Chrysler ME Four-Twelve.

Pagani Automobili S.p.A are planning on expanding and moving on to another new facility. This new facility would ramp up the production for the new Pagani C9 to about 45 cars per year. This would be approximately a three fold increase from the current production of 20 cars per year. It is estimated that the new Pagani C9 would sell for $1,250,000. It is also rumored that the Pagani Zonda R model would cease production somewhere close to March 2011. The new Pagani C9 is expected to be more efficient and lively to drive than the Zonda R. Weight of the new car is striven to be kept along the 2500 lbs mark.

Pagani Automobili S.p.A currently is one of the only manufacturers across the world to use carbon fiber as a major component in the manufacture of their cars. Expect the new Pagani C9 model to be launched by February 2011 and is expected to go heads on with the Shelby GT 500 and the desirable Buggati Veyron Grand Sport.
